int:net – Interoperability Network for the Energy Transition

Goal

The project »Interoperability Network for the Energy Transition« (int:net) creates an open, cross-sector community that brings together all relevant stakeholders in the European energy sector to collaborate on the development, testing, and implementation of interoperable energy services. To support ongoing harmonization of energy services, int:net will institutionalize an assessment methodology and a maturity model (IMM). By involving legal and regulatory authorities from the beginning and facilitating constant exchange among interoperability initiatives and standardization bodies, a comprehensive consensus is reached on how European policy and industry can promote interoperability at all levels.

Benefit

int:net will influence the interoperability landscape for energy services by:

  • Establishing a common knowledge base for interoperability activities in energy services in Europe, encompassing data and platforms at both the functional and business levels.
  • Developing a comprehensive Interoperability Maturity Model (IMM) that provides a methodology for assessing interoperability.
  • Creating a framework for harmonized interoperability testing within a network of interoperability testing facilities.
  • Establishing a community network for a European interoperability ecosystem, ensuring horizontal coordination and support, as well as sustainable adoption of energy services related to interoperability, data spaces, and digital twins.

Results

The int:net maturity model combines frameworks that provide resources and measures for testing interoperability within a growing network of testbeds and testing laboratories. The experiences from such tests and the establishment of favorable frameworks will contribute to the knowledge base of good examples, thus maintaining a continuous cycle.

Furthermore, int:net will build a network involving a wide range of stakeholders, including academia, legal and regulatory authorities, and product developers in the industry. Participants will select technical standards and combine them with market requirements to develop market-ready, interoperable products.
